Having produced knives for over thee decades, trying most every avenue, and material available, I personally believe that the toughest, best cutting knives can only be produced through the proper forging and heat treatment of the chosen steel.  Rather than try to impress people by offering every type of blade steel under the sun, I choose to work with what I know (52100, 5160, and 1084  for "working grade" blades).  These steels have proven they possess the durability,  and toughness, as well as the ease of sharpening that are a must.   I am constantly trying new materials, techniques, and patterns in order to offer my clients the very best!

Damascus Pens

I offer 3 different styles of Damascus Pens.  Those listed as "ACXX" are "click" action pens with Germany/Schmidt click mechanisms.  These are the slimmest and the lightest of the pens.   Those pens list as "VBXX" are the largest/heaviest Bolt Action/Ball point pens I offer.  Finally, those pens designated with "BAXX" are my most popular Bolt Action/Ball point pens.

Caffry Grider Platen

For many years, I have been using a platen  that I conceived & designed with the initial model being built by Rob Frink of Beaumont Metal Works.
Designed for use on the KMG, or any other grinder that utilizes a 1 1/2" square tooling arm, this platen offers what I feel is the ultimate in versatility, and ease of changeover. Once you use a "Caffrey Platen" you'll wonder how you ever did without one!

These pens are a medium diameter/weight, and many prefer this version for day to day use.  Be aware, these pens are STEEL, therefore they will be much heavier/more hefty than typical pens.  It's "The Nature of the Beast"... a steel pen equals "heavy weight"... but in a good way!  Pens for sale can be found on the PRODUCTS page.

The mounting arrangement of a 3/4" pin and clamp/socket, which allows the platen to be turned to any of the working surfaces;  Flat platen, 1 1/2" contact wheel, slack belt, 3" contact wheel, or any place in between, simply by loosening one hand bolt (no tools required) , moving the platen to the desire position, and then re-tightening the hand bolt.

 

This platen can be used on ANY grinder, even those with odd sized tooling arms such as the 1 1/4" utilized on some machines.  Beaumont/KMG offers 1 1/4" tooling arms as an option when you purchase a Caffrey Platen.
